Rockhounding for Geodes

 Driving out into the west desert on the Pony Express trail...perfect day.

Not too hot and no rain...

 The mountains start looking like something you would see in Bryce Canyon or Zion's...

 Stopping at Simpson Springs for some lunch and our last chance to use an indoor potty...

We got a little worried (ok, well it was just me doing the worrying, I'm sure) when we kept seeing cars pulled over with flat tires. It's about 50 miles or more of dirt roads...what an adventure...

 We finally arrived at the Dugway Geode beds...we weren't even sure we were going the right way. After 3 1/2 hours of driving, we were just ready to get out and start digging anywhere! Luckily we found someone that directed us to the right dirt road.  

 As you can see, it wasn't all fun and games...Brooklyn fell down the hill and scraped her hand; requiring me to break out the first aid kit right away. Good thing I stocked up on bandaids...

 Garden tools were perfect for little hands...

 Geodes were EVERYWHERE!

 The guy that owns the claim (supposedly) comes out every so often and digs a big pit.

He had just been there 2 hours before we got there...

 After a couple hours of digging, we had to head back home before it got too dark.

I didn't think it would be too fun driving home on those dirt roads in the dark...

especially if we got a flat tire (there I go worrying again)...

and everyone was bored and hungry...oops. :)

 Finally...

After being in the car in close quarters, we all just wanted to get home...but we came home with some awesome treasure. We still have about 30 Geodes we haven't cracked open yet...And if you don't count the whining (yes, some from me too) and fighting and getting hurt, we made some great memories...all in all it was a great trip and good end to our spring break...

It seems like some of the tiny geodes were the most sparkly inside...

We can't wait to crack open the rest to see what treasures we will find!
