Proof:
Good 'ole hockey days...Many of you know the story, but for those that don't...here's a quick recap...and why we don't play hockey anymore:
Before Ric and I met each other, we randomly decided that we wanted to play ice hockey. I grew up figure skating, and Ric went from playing a little roller hockey to ice hockey. I played for the BYU Blades and Ric played for UVSC aka UVU. We both played for a couple of seasons. My ice time was EARLY...and COLD. We had some great games. Most of the hockey fights were staged, lol...We needed the crowd. We had some great times. I remember summer training early in the morning on the tennis courts. And our game against the Salt Lake Women...they were HUGE and SCARY! Pretty sure we lost.
Ric and I ended up meeting each other at UVSC, where he was sitting at a booth promoting their next game. I approached the table and we started talking about me playing hockey. (He didn't think girls could play hockey, but I ended up skating circles around him later on, lol). He asked me if I was going to come and sit in the "girlfriend" section. (nice pickup, lol)... We ran into each other later that night at the institute building and ended up dating. We were married about 5 months later.
After we were married, Ric continued to play hockey on league teams every once in a while and I was busy with a 1 year old and a baby on the way...One night, after Brynley was in bed, Ric came home from his league game with a huge bag of ice on the side of his face. I immediately became worried while he described what had happened. He told me he was involved in a fight (his first and only one) where they were pushing each other around. Not a huge deal. The opponent was on the ground on his knees and Ric was standing beside him, looking towards the crowd. The other guy swung his hockey stick like a bat, hitting right underneath the cage on the helmet, striking the side of Ric's face. HARD. This guy was taken out of the game and couldn't play anymore that season... (Poor him)
But pretty sure we got the RAW end of the deal...
Ric thought he had maybe injured a couple of his teeth. (We found out 6 years later this was true). BUT, after going to the dentist and being referred to an oral surgeon, we found out that Ric's jaw was actually fractured in 2 places and had to be wired shut for 6 weeks. It was a NIGHTMARE...Ric pretty much lost his job, and lost 30 + lbs. Nothing but sipping shakes through a straw for 6 weeks. We both decided to sell all of our hockey equipment (except for my jersey and our skates).
SO....fast forward to a few weeks ago. (This is 7 years after the injury). Ric's tooth starts CHIPPING out of his mouth (on the same side where he was injured)...and then a week ago, Ric started having MAJOR tooth pain. Come to find out, he needs to have 2 root canals ($1200 each). Either that, or he can just have them pulled out...I know it all stems from the injury 7 years ago.
The hockey association wouldn't pay for the oral surgery 7 years ago because it wasn't an accident, so we ended up with the $6,000 bill...and now we are STILL dealing with this...
And THAT is why we don't play hockey anymore...

Oh my gosh!!!! What a nightmare.
Yikes!! Don't ya just love the injury that never ends! Definately a nightmare!
Crazy! Ugh, if anyone can relate to lame dental drama, it's me--if you recall, my sister kicked my front teeth out 15 years ago. And I've just recently been dealing with 2 root canals and their crown friends. LAME LAME LAME! I'm so sorry. Just remember, we won't need any dentists in Heaven!
Unfortunately our family has crappy teeth too. I have had two molars, no actually three just break in pieces for no reason. One I was eating chips, the other was an apple and I think the other just broke when I was watching tv. I feel his pain... I can't afford the root canals either so I have to get two teeth pulled myself right now. But I do remember the broken jaw! That was crazy!
