Coffee and Tea

This face says just exactly how I'm feeling about the subject lately:
I have NEVER in my life had so many conversations about COFFEE and TEA...

I would have never imagined Brooklyn needing to stand up for herself in KINDERGARTEN.

And Brynley is being teased for NOT drinking coffee...in 2nd grade.

Conversation with Brooklyn last week:

Brooklyn: "Mom, everyone in my class drinks coffee..."
Me: "No way Brooklyn...they are only 5 and 6 years old. Kids don't drink coffee..." (Right?)

Brooklyn: "Yes mom, they all said that they drink coffee...well...one girl said she tried it and won't ever drink it again." (ok, good...good).

Me: "Well...what did you say?"
Brooklyn: "I told them that I don't drink coffee because it's bad for our bodies. I said that Jesus told us it was bad for our bodies...and then "Mario" said, 'How do YOU know what Jesus said??'
(Oh goodness).

Me: "I'm so glad that you stood up for yourself, even though you were the only one." (This CAN'T be true that they all drink coffee or have "tasted" it before...crazy).
Kindergarten and caffeine CANNOT be a good combination...no wonder the teachers are going bonkers!

Brynley is seriously having issues with coffee...I finally got it out of her (after a few serious break downs with lots of crying) that she thinks if she "smells" coffee that she may just die. And her school teacher drinks coffee...GReAt...and she thinks our house smells like coffee...
QUARANTINE!!
She has been SO concerned about eating healthy lately, and pretty much had a nervous breakdown the other day. Her "good" friend went around telling everyone that she doesn't drink coffee. (Wonderful...) I told her to tell her friend that she didn't care, and just blow it off...draw NO attention to it.

So...I always tell the girls that we need to eat HEALTHY
so we don't get sick.

(Photo courtesy of eating out at Cheesecake Factory) :)

Brynley's interpretation for that is: "we need to eat healthy so we don't get sick...and DIE."

(Oh man, oh man).

We've had some serious conversations with this girlie...I'm going to have to word it differently or just stop saying it at all... She thinks and analyzes WAY too much (just like her dad, lol). She's a little miss smarty pants.

I feel so bad, and I think most of it is my fault. I don't do well with sick kids or a sick husband or a sick me...so I may overdue it with the "magic soap" and washing of hands...or constantly reminding everyone to try and eat healthy...

We need to do some backtracking here and RELAX. (Like I am constantly telling the kids to do...but I am a hyprocrite...)

"Just REELAAXX!"

I am SO DONE with the coffee and tea conversations though...
I wish we could just DROP it.

This is our conversation that we have almost every week:

"Some people drink coffee or tea and some people don't (and it's ok)...our family chooses not to. We are trying to be obedient... and through the prophet, we know that coffee and tea our not good for our bodies. It doesn't mean that people who drink coffee are bad (they just don't have the same knowledge that we do)...

Some people drink it and some don't...and it's OKAY!"

Period...
HERE!...
have a piece of candy...have some of daddy's Diet Coke (shhh)...it's OKAY!
Okay, well the Diet Coke sharing is not a frequent occurance...just a little "treat" sometimes. We're trying to get dad to "quit." ;)

First of all. . .I wish we were wearing shorts right now! Second of all. . .well handled! Third . . .I was gonna puke when i saw how pretty your salad was! Seriously moms who make dinner that pretty on a regular basis. . .well its just not right, I'm glad to see that it was Cheesecake Factory, for my own self justification more than anything!

Wow that sounds like a not very fun thing to deal with at such young ages, but I think you are handling it extremely well. Did I ever tell you that you are living right where Sam served his mission?

I am seriously blown away that kids that young are drinking coffee! Our kids think coffee smells. They say it's very bad for their bodies too. Good for her for standing up!

NO WAY!!! Kindergarten? I can't believe it! Brynley is such a good girl...and good for Brooklyn for standing up for herself...she'll probably have to do it 100 more times, but Kindergarten??? Come on!

you and i have already talked about some of this... katelynn is the same way-- super sensitive to certain things... she gets really upset with people who choose to smoke. she knows it is something we dont do but just because someone makes a bad choice doesnt make them a horrible person. she esp gets upset when it is someone she loves ( ie mike). i think sometimes we have to be careful how we word things to kids ( even with schools anymore). i understand teaching kids right and wrong but we cant become judge and jury over others..... i guess that is when free agency gets taught :)

hope things are getting easier....

sorry "sis"... I have noticed a lot of kids at my sons' schools drinking coffee and even there little brother in 1st grade loves drinking from their dad's coffee mug (he did not drink it when we were married). THANKFULLY my kids seemed to have gotten my genes of hating even the smell of it.

I do not know what to tell you about the candy addiction though :) I do not allow candy in my house as a general rule... and sweets in general are far and few in between... mainly because I DON'T need it and I would rather go out and get one sweet thing when that craving hits then to see it constantly :)
