Brynley's green casts...

We just went through our 2nd round of casting for Brynley's toe walking and so far she hasn't walked up on her toes, but it's only been a few days and her muscles are "mush." She's been kind of shuffling around everywhere. She likes to wear her cowgirl boots because it gives her a little more support I think. After 6 weeks of having casts on, her legs are really weak.

I'm really frustrated about everything though because no one seems to have a solution and I haven't heard any success stories of kids walking on toes and then walking normally after casting or therapy. She could still start walking on her toes even after 3 months...I just really want to get this taken care of. I don't want it to be a problem for her in the future.

It took us forever to get the casts cut off her leg. Because they were waterproof with thinner lining, they had to be extra careful so they didn't cut her leg. They started prying it apart with the "nut cracker" as Brynley called it and we were so excited to see the rest of her legs. She has a good tan line going on right below her knees and toes. The skin is really sensitive right now so her feet are really ticklish and she feels like she needs to wear socks and shoes around everywhere.

We are going back in a few days to get fitted for night braces to keep her muscles stretched out and I'm also going to start going on "heel-toe" walks, having Brynley say "heel-toe" out loud as she is walking...I think she needs to get it into her brain so that it can send the right signal to her feet...I really hope that we can make some progress this time and don't have to do casts again or consider surgery. Not fun...
